I was born and grew up in China, both Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and western medicine played important roles in health care, I had never had any doubts about either medicine until I had to choose my own profession in my senior year at high school (According to Chinese system, students go to medical school directly from high school). My father, an artist, encouraged me to be a doctor, especially the doctor to be able to practice both TCM and western medicine. He often told me that the philosophy in the TCM was just like the art such as oil painting. He felt strongly one cannot be a modern TCM practitioner without a profound understanding of modern medicine. With my father’s encouragement and hope, I started my journey to become a doctor in both TCM and western medicine, and never looked back.

I felt I became a time traveler for the first two years. I had to travel from modern to the ancient time: our coursework included Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, etc. in biomedicine, as well as the foundation of TCM theory, Meridians, Acupuncture Points, etc. in TCM. Very often, we spent the whole morning in the anatomy lab to study the bones, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, then I had to imagine how vital Qi travels in the body as we discussed Meridians in the afternoon; We learned the function of heart, lung, liver, kidney, spleen in physiology one day, the following day I needed to figure out how each organ mentioned above represented a functional group in TCM foundation class. Sometimes I made conscious effort to forget the modern science when studying TCM, as if I traveled back to the ancient time without X-ray, CT or MRI. I didn’t have any difficulty understanding either medicine alone, but I had extremely hard time understanding both medical systems at the same time. Two years later, I started to be able to find the bridge between the two medical systems. Everything started to make sense, nervous system, hormones and enzymes in biomedicine could explain many pathological conditions diagnosed by YIN-YANG, FIVE ELEMENTS theories in TCM.

I have been an enthusiastic practitioner of TCM since I immigrated to the USA. I worked for 2 years back in China as an MD as well as an acupuncturist, I was using western medicine, herbs and acupuncture to treat patients. After I came to USA, I was convinced more than ever by the excellent results from Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. Often, my patients call me miracle worker, I am happy to hear that, but I know it is not me that create any miraculous result, but the powerful ancient Chinese medicine.

I am looking forward to team with you, to create the “miracle” you need to improve your health and wellbeing.
